SHARP ENTERS U.S. LED LIGHTING MARKET

  • Sharp’s U.S. introduction of LED lighting builds on a long history of technology leadership in critical technologies
  • Initial foray includes LED lighting solutions for commercial market, followed by consumer options later this Fall

Sharp made its official debut in the U.S. LED lighting market at Lightfair International 2010. With a 40-year history in the mass production of LED devices, Sharp has been at the forefront of the LED technology industry since its inception. As a market leader of LED lighting in Japan, Sharp’s experience and technology prowess position the company for a strong U.S. entry.

“As a leading electronics company, we understand how to manufacture, market and service electronics products and this foundation enables us to provide LED lighting innovations for eco-conscious customers,” said Christine Lewis, associate vice president, LED Lighting, Sharp Electronics Corporation. “We will also look to Sharp’s strength in solar technology to offer future LED lighting solutions for both businesses and consumers.”

Sharp’s initial U.S. launch will be commercial/industrial PAR38 lamps becoming available in May in both warm white and cool white, each with two brightness levels. These will be followed by PAR30 lamps this summer. These lamps will provide businesses with a solution to retro-fit existing sockets with lighting that has the ability to reduce the power consumption by approximately 80 percent compared to standard halogen lamps.

Sharp’s U.S. LED lighting product lineup will be expanding rapidly to include indoor and outdoor fixtures for businesses and consumers. In the fall, Sharp will introduce A19 lamps as well as solar-powered walkway lighting and dimmable/color changing remote-controlled LED lamps.

Quality LED Lighting
Sharp LED lighting is quality LED lighting. Sharp’s LED lamps offer a high luminous flux and a high CRI (color rendering index) to enable more accurate reproduction of color.

In addition, Sharp LED lamps are comprised of high quality components, helping to ensure a long lifetime, which Sharp backs up with a 3-year warranty.

Distribution
Sharp has signed with very experienced manufacturers’ representative agencies who are focused on the commercial/industrial electrical channel. These representative agencies have long established relationships with distributors, end users, and energy service companies (ESCOs).

Commitment to the Environment
Sharp’s entry into the LED lighting market is consistent with Sharp’s vision to contribute to the world with environment and health conscious business, focusing on energy-saving and energy-creating products. LED lighting is non-hazardous, using eco-friendly materials and contains no mercury. The power consumption of LED lighting can be reduced by approximately 80 percent compared to standard halogen lamps and LED lamps’ long life reduces waste.

Other key environmental and health related product categories Sharp leads are LCD televisions, which are more energy efficient than other types of display technologies, and clean energy-creating solar panels.

Sharp also aims to be an eco-conscious organization in its business operations. For example, Sharp’s nationwide electronics recycling programprovides free, convenient consumer recycling of Sharp televisions and other consumer audio and video products. Sharp is also a leading member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWaySM Transport Partnership, a market-based partnership to reduce fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions, and air pollutants from the freight sector, and has received its annual Environmental Excellence Award in each of the four years the award has been given.
